Start with Ambition – WORK to Finish

by Evie on September 20, 2009

Today’s blog begins with a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson.

“Without AMBITION one starts nothing. Without WORK one finishes nothing. The prize will not be sent to you. You have to win it. The man who knows how will always have a job. The man who also knows why will always be his boss. As to methods there may be a million and then some, but principles are few. The man who grasps principles can successfully select his own methods. The man who tries methods, ignoring principles, is sure to have trouble.”

This quote kinda knocked me on my rear-end this morning. It was a *duh* but also a “What does this mean?” So asking empowering questions – I asked my Self … What am I to take away from this? My answer was as follows.

I can have the greatest story ever, waiting to be told floating around in my head, wanting to be put to paper or recorded. However if I take no steps to make it so, no one else will ever know the scope of the tale if I first do not sit down and first write it, then find a way to get it published and then follow through with the marketing of that tale waiting – wanting to be told.

I can have the greatest website idea also floating around in my head (maybe bumping into the never told story) but no one will ever know the scope of what is possible to accomplish until I sit down and draft out what my idea is – AND THEN follow through to either gain the skills I need or to find them to bring the website into completion and use.

… OR … will this great Universe we are a part of find another way for the story or the website or the *fill in the blank* to ~become~ ?

Reality has a funny way of re-re-re-creating itself until the desired outcome is met. Of course *whatever* morphs as it goes through each individuals abilities and skills as *whatever* is brought to and then takes on a life of it’s own.

In my opinion, creating *whatever* is a lot like birthing a child. Some people want no children and will stop any oops that come their way, no matter the cost. There are many people who do not see themselves AS a (the?) creator – so they abort ideas or wisps of thought, never doing the actions needed that bring them into the stream of co-creators of our reality, while they sit on the sidelines and bemoan the fact they are left behind, as others pick up the discarded (escaped ;-) ) ideas and wisps of thought to make it so.

In my reality an entity not born to the “parent(s) of choice” will find another to become. Meaning rather it be person, book, tool, or *fill in the blank* … *whatever* that WANTS to be created (heard, experienced, … to BE …) WILL be.

The shortest distance between two points IS a straight line, but if needed detours are always available … even if new roads need to be built.

… hmmm … how’s that Self? :-)
